FAQs

Most frequent questions & answers.
  • Therapy is an investment in your mental health. If you suffer a bodily injury, you often don’t think twice about seeking medical attention. However, lots of people don’t respond to a mental injury with the same level of urgency and attention. Knowing when to ask for help is a strength that should be celebrated.

Therapy is a personal choice you make for a variety of reasons. During your first therapy session, you can expect a general getting to know you, and whatever concerns brought you to therapy in the first place. Therapy at My Inner Peace holds a safe and nonjudgemental space for you. Therapy requires a collaborative relationship between you, the client, and therapist.

Therapy can be short-term or long-term depending on the your needs. Therapy can address issues such as depression, mood disorders, anxiety, relationship troubles, trauma, grief & loss, stress & body-image concerns, to name a few.

  • We do not require referrals.

  • This is true. As a general rule of thumb, anything talked about during a therapy session is strictly confidential, however, there are a few exceptions that, as required by law, must be reported:

    - Suspected child, dependant adult, or elderly abuse
    - Client is threatening serious bodily harm to another person
    - Client intends to end their own life (in this instance, the therapist will work with the client to ensure safety, however, if the client is uncooperative, alternative measures may need to take place)
    - Client discloses they have been assaulted by a regulated health professional
    - Client’s file is subpoenaed by the courts
The therapist will inform you, as the client, if any of these situations should occur.

  • Unfortunately, therapy is not covered by OHIP.

Most insurance providers cover psychotherapy provided by a Registered Psychotherapist, however, it is encouraged that you refer to your individual plan as coverage varies by provider and plan type.

Some of our therapists are able to provide services covered under Social Work, through being supervised by a Registered Social Worker.

Sessions end 10 minutes prior to the end time. This allows the therapist to update the notes following the session.

  • Everyone’s journey and needs are different. Some clients need a long term process in order to achieve their goals, while others feel they have reached their goals sooner. The choice is yours.

  • If you require to change or cancel an appointment, please provide 48 hours advance notice. Cancellations within 48 hours will be billed at the full session fee.

For emergency situations, please speak directly to your therapist.

  • Therapy should feel like your safe space. While, at times, it may seem challenging or uncomfortable to open up and be vulnerable with your therapist, you should never feel judged. Some therapists offer a free consultation for new clients, take this opportunity to see if they feel like a right fit for you. Therapists know that they cannot be the right fit for every client, and even if you’ve already begun therapy, and it no longer feels like the right fit, feel free to raise this concern to the therapist, and they will assist you in finding alternative providers.
